AWC-NYC MENTORING AND OUTREACH
Be active in establishing and changing technology for women today!
One of the AWC-NYC chapter goals is to provide mentoring opportunities
for our membership. To meet this goal, the Association for Women in Computing
has teamed up with MentorNet - the Presidential Award winning E-Mentoring
Network for Women in Engineering and Science.
For student members, the MentorNet experience can connect you
with an industry professional. This connection will provide you with an
experienced sounding board, which can help you plan your career and improve
your skills.
For professional members, MentorNet can give you the chance to
develop your coaching skills while participating in the development of
a valued member of the technology community. You will be able to give
back what you have learned or wish you had learned and assist in the development
of women in technology.

AWC of NYC Partners with Girl Scouts of NYC
Are you interested in educating teenage girls on the opportunities the
technology industry has to offer?
AWC-NYC has developed a partnership with the Girl Scout's Studio 2B program
to provide 2-3 hour workshops on all areas of technology. Studio 2B
is an outreach program created by the Girl Scouts to empower teen girls
to "Become, Belong, Believe, Build" by creating opportunities for
community outreach, career development and discussion of issues.
AWC-NYC has already provided two workshops to the Studio2B girls. The first
workshop gave the girls a guided tour through a website development
department as well as a one-hour tutorial on Microsoft FrontPage. The
second workshop gave the girls a behind-the-scenes look at a creative
services company and provided them some hands-on instruction in Photoshop.
